Description
A minor in education proposes to enlighten the students about the teaching profession with the goal of developing a K-12 educationally literate populace. Issues in education related to pedagogy, child development, philosophy, and foundations are focus areas of this minor.
Course Requirements
Students who want to pursue a minor in education must take the following courses: Edci 209: Foundations of American Education (3); Edsp 308: Introduction to Special Education (3); Edav 427: Educational Technology (3); and 9 additional hours of approved education courses at the 300 level or higher. Approved elective courses for the education minor:
- Edec 301: Experiences in Early Childhood Ed.
- Edec 320: Early Childhood Methods
- Edec 321: Early Childhood Development
- Edec 323: Sp. Ed. For Early Childhood Development
- Edec 324: Early Language and Literacy
- Edci 320: Service Learning in Science Education: K-12
- Edci 557: Computer Concepts and App for Educators
- Edci 558: Integrating the Internet in Education
- Edse 410: Seminar in Secondary Education
- i-Edls 301: Children’s Literature K-8
- i-Edrd 300: Foundations of Reading Instruction
- i-Edrd 317: Diagnosis and Remediation of Reading Disabilities
- i-Edsp 308: Intro to Special Education
All courses are offered online. Course substitutions must be approved by the Department of Teacher Education.
Other Academic Requirements
The education minor is open to students who have an interest in educational issues. It does not meet teacher certification requirements.
