M.S.W. in Social Work
Description
The M.S.W. is a professional degree that prepares students to work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities in clinical settings. Students pursue either a regular track or advanced standing track, depending on their education.
Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements (regular standing program)
In addition to meeting regular Graduate School requirements of a bachelor's degree and completed online application, students seeking regular admission to the Master of Social Work program must meet or submit the following:
- Completion of 3 hours in each of the following undergraduate liberal arts courses: English composition, history, political science, statistics, psychology, sociology, human biology, and 9 hours of electives in the social or behavioral sciences.

- Essay
- Background check
- Three letters of recommendation
Admission Requirements (advanced standing program)
In addition to the requirements for regular admission, students seeking admission to the advanced standing program for the Master of Social Work must meet the following:
- 3.0 GPA on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework or 3.0 overall GPA
- Completion of Bachelor of Social Work degree from a CSWE accredited program within the last five years

Emphasis - MSW Adv Placement Track
Description
The advanced placement track for the M.S.W. is designed for highly qualified students who have completed a B.S.W. from a CSWE-accredited program within the past five years.
Course Requirements
Students in the advanced placement track for the M.S.W. must complete 36 hours of social work courses, 30 hours of clinical practice courses, and 6 hours of electives (from among the set of listed courses). No thesis or final oral examination is required.
