B.S. in Histotechnology (2+2)

Description

The B.S. in histotechnology (a 2+2 program with the University of Mississippi Medical Center) prepares students to be a health care professional that processes and prepares human and animal tissues to be observed by various forms of microscopy. Following proper tissue preparation, a histotechnologist stains tissue for routine and special identification of bacteria, fungi, cancer, and tissue structure abnormalities for pathological diagnosis.

Course Requirements

The curriculum for the B.S. in histotechnology is a two-phase program consisting of a two-year, 60-hour academic program with a 2.5 minimum GPA. The second phase for those admitted is a two-year, five-semester formal didactic and clinical education at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson. Students must meet minimum criteria to apply for UMMC by March 1 of the year they desire entry, and admission is competitive. For further UMMC admissions information, visit the UMMC catalog.
