Certificate in Elementary Education K-6
Description
The Certificate in Elementary Education K-6 provides a structured pathway for secondary teachers seeking to earn an Elementary K-6 endorsement. The program is designed for licensed secondary (7-12) educators with a 5-year standard renewable license and at least three years of teaching experience.
Minimum Total Credit Hours: 15
Course Requirements
The certificate program consists of the following 15 credit hours:
- EDEL 610 – STEM Methods (3 credit hours)
- EDRD 655 – Early Literacy Instruction I & II (6 credit hours)
- EDRD 614 – Reading Diagnosis and Intervention (3 credit hours)
- EDRD 602 – Reading & Writing Across the Curriculum (3 credit hours)
Other Academic Requirements
Educators completing this coursework will also be required by MDE to pass the Foundations of Reading Test (190) to earn the K-6 endorsement.
