Minor - East Asian Studies

Minor - East Asian Studies

Description

Students interested in China, Japan, and Korea, especially the interconnections between East Asian culture, history, and politics, should consider the East Asian Studies minor. This interdisciplinary course of study provides students with a critical understanding of East Asia’s central role in the world, both past and present. The minor helps prepare students for dynamic careers in multiple fields, including business, finance, law, medicine, policy, and academia.

Course Requirements

A minor in East Asian studies consists of 18 hours from at least three different academic units (e.g., Hst, Inst, Rel) from the approved list below, with at least one course from each of the three categories: courses with a focus on China, courses with a focus on Northeast Asia (Japan and Korea), and courses with a regional focus. Students who complete relevant internships, study abroad courses, and special topics courses will consult with the East Asian studies director prior to enrollment in the course for approval and to determine the appropriate category for the course. The same course may not satisfy requirements for both a student's major and his or her minor. A minimum grade of C is required in all courses applied toward the minor.
