B.P.S. in Paralegal Studies
Description
The paralegal studies program is designed for the student who wishes to pursue a career as a paralegal or legal assistant.

Goals/Mission Statement
Our mission is to educate students in a learning environment conducive to excellence in meeting the complex challenges present in justice- related services. Our faculty's goal is to expand the knowledge base and to integrate cutting-edge information into the learning experiences of students. In addition, the Department of Legal Studies' mission is to extend service to our constituents to enhance learning, program development, and justice-related service in Mississippi, the region, and the nation.
General Education Requirements

An additional 21 hours is required in the following related subjects: 3 hours of history, POL 101 (3 hours), CSCI 103 or 191 (3 hours), 6 hours at the intermediate level (200 level) of the same modern or ancient language, and SPCH 102 or 105 (3 hours).
Course Requirements
The B.P.S. degree requires the following 42 semester hours of LA courses: LA 201, 204, 205, 303, 304, 402, 405, 406, 490, 495, and 12 hours of LA electives.
Other Academic Requirements
For majors in this field, a minimum grade of 2.5 must be maintained on all paralegal studies course work.
All BPS majors must complete a minor or second major selected by the student and approved by the student's academic adviser.
