The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Ed.S. in Counselor Education

Description

The Ed.S. in counselor education is designed specifically for school counselors. Completion of this degree will partially fulfill requirements in the state of Mississippi for AAA school counselor licensure.

Minimum Total Credit Hours: 66

Course Requirements

The Ed.S. in counselor education requires 18 hours of course work to include Coun 653-Group Counseling Practicum Coun 682-Family Counseling Coun 674-Diagnostic Systems in Counseling One 3-hour elective and 6 hours of Coun 695-Internship

This set of requirements is built upon the following courses for the M.Ed. in counselor education (48 hours). The student may be required to take these courses if any of them are not in his/her record: Coun 539, 570, 594, 601, 605, 621, 643, 680, 683, 672, 686, 690, 688, 693, and 695.

Emphasis - Play Therapy

Description

The Ed.S. in counselor education/play therapy option is designed for mental health clinicians specializing in play therapy. Completion of this degree will partially fulfill requirements for certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) with the Association for Play Therapy. The program will be delivered completely online with distance supervision for the practica in play therapy.

Coun 605 - C min 3 Student must complete Coun 605 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 621 - C min 3 Student must complete Coun 621 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 643 - C min 3 Student must complete Coun 643 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 653 - C min 3 Complete Coun 653 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 672 - C min 3 Student must complete Coun 672 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 674 - C min 3 Complete Coun 674 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 680 - C min 3 Student must complete Coun 680 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 682 - C min 3 Complete Coun 682 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 683 - C min 3 Student must complete Coun 683 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 686 - C min 3 Student must complete Coun 686 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 688 - C min 3 Student must complete Coun 688 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 690 - C min 3 Student must complete Coun 690 with a grade of C or better.
Coun 693 3 Student must complete Coun 693.
Coun 695 6 Complete at least 6 hours of internship (Coun 695).
Elective course 3 Student must complete a 3-hour elective approved by his/her GPC/Chair.
GPA requirements A cumulative average of not less than 3.0 (B) must be achieved in all graduate work taken.
Engineering Dean's approval This Degree Audit program is an advising tool only. The student must still apply for a degree by returning a completed Degree Application Form to the dean's office before the last day to add classes in the semester preceding the semester in which the stuent expects to graduate. The Dean's Office will make the final certification that the courses listed on the application qualify the student for graduation. The Dean's Office will also determine if other university requirements (GPA, etc.) have been met.
