The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Minor - International Studies

Course Requirements

A minor in International Studied consists of 21 hours, including POL 102 or INST 101; 6 hours of upper division course work on contemporary international issues for the approved list below; and 3 hours of 300- level proficiency-oriented course work in one foreign language. In addition, students will complete 9 hours in a regional studies track – East Asia, Europe, or Latin America – from the approved list below. The foreign language selected must correspond to the regional studies track.

A MINIMUM GRADE OF C is required in all courses applied toward the minor in International Studies. Students should consult with the international studies adviser in the Croft Institute to plan their program of study.

  1. POL 102 or INST 101

  2. 6 hours of 300-level or above courses on contemporary international issues from the following list: Anth 312, 353, Econ 320, 510; His 382; Inst 316, 318, 321, 323, 324, 371; Pol 329, 331, 332, 333, 334, 335, 336, 338, 339, 341, 342, 344, 346, 381, 382, 383; Soc 353, 359.

  3. 3 hours of 300-level conversation and composition in a foreign language that corresponds to the students’ regional focus. The following courses fulfill this requirement; CHIN 301 or 302; FR 303 or 304; GERM 303 or 304; ITAL 301 or 302; JAPN 301 or 302; PORT 301 or 302; RUSS 301 or 302; SPAN 303 or 304.

  4. 9 hours in one of the following regional studies tracks. Students must take a minimum of 3 hours in history and may not take more than 6 hours from one department.

East Asian Track: Chin 321, 361; His 180, 394, 395, 396, 397, 398; Inst 310, 321, 331, 341; Phil 308, 309; Pol 324, 325, 337, 340, 387; Rel 308, 309, 311, 322.

Other Academic Requirements

Beginning with the fall 2006 semester, a minimum grade of C is required in all courses applied toward the minor in international studies.
