The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Degree Requirements

The academic regulations for this degree program, as entered in the University of Mississippi Catalog, are in effect for the current or selected academic year and semester. The University of Mississippi reserves the right to 1) change or withdraw courses; 2) change rules for registration, instruction, and graduation; and 3) change other regulations affecting the student body at any time.

Engl 600 3 Student must complete Engl 600.
Engl 697 6 Student must complete 6 hour of thesis credit (Engl 697).
Add'l course work 11 Student must complete an additional 11 hours of course work as approved by his/her GPC/Chair. Up to 6 hours may be taken in related disciplines and/or directed reading. Graduate instructors teaching freshman compositions are required to complete Engl 617 (Teaching College English). Students who wish to specialize in Renaissance and Early Modern studies must complete 6 hours of graduate course work in Renaissance and Early Modern studies and submit a thesis on a Rensaissance or Early Modern subject. They are also encouraged to take 3 hours in a related discipline such as history, religion, or art, provided the focus of the course is on the Renaissance or Early Modern period.
Foreign language Student must demonstrate proficiency in one foreign language, usually Greek, Latin, Spanish, French, German, or Italian. Proficiency is defined as a genuine working knowledge of the language. Ordinarily, it would be demonstrated by a grade of B or hiher in 3 hours of residen course work in the literature of the appropriate foreign language (in the original), by a score in the 40th percentile or higher in the Grauate Student Foreign Language Test administered by the Educational Testing Service, or by a grade of B or higher in Fr 599, Germ 599, or Span 599, Special Topics: Translation for Foreign Language Proficiency. Anyone seeking to satisfy the foreign language requirement in a language other than those listed must petition the graduate studies committee.
Literature after 1800 6 Student must complete 6 hours of course work in English or American lieterature after 1800. Courses must be approved by the student's GPC/Chair.
Literature before 1800 6 Student must complete 6 hours of course work in English or American literature before 1800. Courses must be approved by the student's GPC/Chair.
Oral defense Student must orally defend his/her thesis.
Submit Thesis Student must submit a thesis to his/her GPC/Chair. Regulations governing the style, format, paper, abstract and other matters may be found in "A Manual of Thesis and Dissertations" available in the Graduate School Office. After the oral examination has been accepted, the student must present to the Graduate School two unbound copies of the thesis. A copy of the abstract and the thesis binding fee receipt must accompany the copies of the thesis.
GPA requirements A cumulative average of not less than 3.0 (B) must be achieved in all graduate work taken.
Liberal Arts Dean's approval This Degree Audit program is an advising tool only. The student must still apply for a degree by returning a completed Degree Application Form to the dean's office before the last day to add classes in the semester preceding the semester in which the stuent expects to graduate. The Dean's Office will make the final certification that the courses listed on the application qualify the student for graduation. The Dean's Office will also determine if other university requirements (GPA, etc.) have been met.
