BMS 475: Molecular Basis of Future Medicines
Biomolecular Sciences
This course is designed to familiarize students with both the molecular basis and the future directions of drug development. A key focus of the course will be the foreseeable global health challenges that might be (or might not be) addressed by new pharmaceuticals. Central to this will be thinking about how the chemistry underlying drug development might change in the face of new approaches, such as personalized medicine and advanced gene sequencing, and new needs, such as an aging society and emerging diseases (as exemplified by the COVID-19 pandemic).
